PAGASA: Southwest Monsoon Takes Over Western Luzon

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Southwest Monsoon will have its effects in the western section of Luzon causing gale warning in the area.

Although there are no typhoons or severe weather conditions, Southwest Monsoon will cause strong winds throughout the country causing coastal water conditions to be rough. In Northern Luzon,  wind speed will be strong as it is being directed Southwest with rough coastal waters. The rest of Luzon will have moderate to strong speed directing Southwest with its coastal water conditions ranging from 1.2 to  3.1 meters high labeling it moderate to rough. Visayas and Mindanao will have light to moderate winds with moderate levels of their coastal waters.

Weather Today – August 7, 2023

Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, and Benguet will be experiencing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms that is caused by the Southwest Monsoon making it possible to have flooding or landslides from a moderate to rough level in the listed areas during a heavy rain. 

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. The weather is caused by the Southwest Monsoon and localized thunderstorms. Impacts of the areas by Southwest Monsoon will be flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. However, the weather will be fair for the majority of the day for the Philippines.



PAGASA has issued a gale warning in northern seaboard of Northern Luzon in the following areas:

  • Batanes
  • The Northern Coast of Ilocos Norte
  • The Northern Coast of Cagayan Including Babuyan Islands

The weather of the area will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. The wind force in the area will have 45 to 63 kph/knots with rough sea conditions. The gale force winds are a product of a severe tropical storm enhancing the Southwest Monsoon causing it to have strong weather. – WhatALife!/Zain
