After the initial three-year registration validity on brand-new cars, LTO requires all motorists to renew their registration every year.

Failing to register is subject to fines that can reach Php 10,000. Moreover, renewal of your vehicle’s registration comes with specific requirements that every motorist must follow, including distinct set renewal dates. See requirements, schedules, fees and other information for LTO car registration and renewal in 2022 below:

Step 1: Prepare the Required Documents

Brand new locally assembled, made completely built units (CBUs), imported CBUs, and brand new locally imported trailers must meet the following specifications: 



  • Original sales invoice
  • Original LTO copy or electronically transmitted appropriate Insurance Certificate of Cover (Third Party Liability)
  • Original Certificate of Stock Reported (CSR)
  • Original PNP-HPG MV Clearance Certificate and Special Bank Receipt (SBR)
  • Payment Reference Number if payment is made through e-PAT

Keep in mind that each vehicle has its own set of requirements.

Additional Requirements: Brand-New Sidecar Motorcycle

  • Signed original Affidavit of Attachment by he owner and the mechanic who fitted the extension for the sidecar. The completion date should be included in this document.

Additional Requirements: Tax-Exempt Vehicles

  • Original duly accomplished Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR)
  • Certificate of Compliance to Emission Standard (CCES) if the unit is used-imported
  • Certified true copy of Release Certificate if the unit is used-imported
  • DFA Endorsement

Additional Requirements: Used-Imported Vehicles (Exempted from EOO 156/877)

  • Photocopy of commercial invoice  or Certificate of Title with English translation authenticated by the Embassy
  • Original duly accomplished Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR)
  • Certificate of Compliance to Emission Standard (CCES)

Additional Requirements: Vehicles purchased through the No Dollar Importation (NDI) Program

  • Photocopy of commercial invoice of motor vehicle or Certificate of Title issued by the country of origin
  • Original or certified true copy of Authority Under the No Dollar Importation. If there’s no authority, Seizure Proceedings and Notice of Award will suffice.
  • Original affidavit of first and last importation
  • Original duly accomplished Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR)
  • Certificate of Compliance to Emission Standard (CCES)
  • Certified true copy of Release Certificate

Additional Requirements: Rebuilt Trucks and Buses (With New or Used Imported Engine and/or Chassis)

  • Photocopy of commercial/sales invoice from country of origin
  • Original Affidavit of Rebuilt executed by the accredited rebuilder with the date of completion
  • Original Certificate of Stock Reported (CSR) of the rebuilt vehicle
  • Certified true copy of endorsement from DTI-FTEB
  • Photocopy of Certificate of Payment in case the vehicle’s parts and components are imported

Additional Requirements: Vehicles purchased through public bidding

  • Certified true copy of the Notice of Award
  • Certified true copy of Official Receipt proving the payment of acquisition cost

Step 2: Visit an LTO Office nearby 

New car registration is not handled by all LTO branches.

Step 3: All Required Documents must be submitted

Proceed to the transaction counter and hand over all necessary documents to the evaluator for evaluation and fee calculation.



Step 4: MVIR must be submitted

Wait for an LTO officer to inspect your vehicle then submit your MVIR (Motor Vehicle Inspection Report).

Step 5: Pay for the LTO Car Registration Fees

Below are the LTO car registration fees you should know. 

  • Initial fee: PHP 1,000/category
  • Stickers and tags: PHP 50 each
  • Regular plate: PHP 450

Step 6: Get Your Registration Certificate, Plates, and Stickers

At the releasing counter, you can get your Certificate of Registration, plates, stickers, and other documentation.



LTO Renewal Process for Existing Vehicles

Take note: Your car registration with the LTO is only good for three years. If it expires, you must renew it on time to avoid a PHP 200 weekly fine.

LTO Renewal Process Schedule

Your LTO registration schedule can be determined in a number of ways, and it all depends on your license plate. When renewing, set aside at least one to two months to prepare the required documentation. 

Simply check your plate number to find out when your renewal is due. Its last digit relates to the month in which your vehicle must be renewed.

The second to last digit of your plate number, on the other hand, relates to your car registration renewal’s weekly deadline.

FOR EXAMPLE: If your vehicle has a plate number of 895, your renewal deadline is May 22nd until May 31st.

Make sure to renew your car registration a month before the expiration date.

Steps to Vehicle Renewal

The procedure for renewing your LTO is essentially the same registering your vehicle. To obtain a CEC, your vehicle must only pass an inspection and an emission test.

LTO Car Registration Renewal Fee

The fees for renewing your LTO are the same as when you first registered, with the exception that you must pay a renewal charge of PHP 400.
