With the most romantic day of the year in sight, Filipinos are asking: Is February 14, 2024, a holiday in the Philippines?
Although the occasion is widely celebrated, the answer is no. February 14, 2024, is not declared a holiday nor a special non-working day in the country.
Valentine’s Day may indeed merit being proclaimed a holiday, as it is the day when people celebrate the expression of love and admiration. However, for years now, we have simply continued with our daily routines and celebrated in ways that do not disrupt our working hours.
Even so, Filipinos still manage to enjoy the day with their significant other, friends, or even by themselves during their free time or after their 9-5 shift.

Furthermore, February 14 also marks Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, a period of reflection and penance leading up to Easter in the Christian calendar. Some individuals may choose to visit the church on this day, expressing gratitude for the gift of the day while reflecting on their mortality and the need for spiritual renewal.
So, although it might seem logical for February 14, 2024, to be a holiday due to its designation as Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday, we simply need to make our free time on that day work for whatever wholesome activities we have prepared for the occasion.
