Well-known model Gigi Hadid was arrested in Cayman Islands for possession of marijuana while going on a vacation.
Hadid, identified by the authorities as Jelena Noura Hadid, and her friend, Leah Nicole McCarthy, were arrested on July 10 for the importation of marijuana and paraphernalia.
The two arrived in the Cayman Islands on a private aircraft from the United States, and were then arrested following a search of their luggage, and a small amount of marijuana was recovered.
The model and her friend were arrested on “suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja.”
The two were taken to Prisoner Detention Center, where they were eventually released on bail. During a court appearance on July 12, Hadid and her friend pleaded guilty, leading them to be fined $1,000. There were no additional charges on the case.
However, a representative said Hadid was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in New York City with a medical license.
“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017,” the representative said. Hadid proceeded with a clean record and enjoyed the rest of her stay in the Cayman Islands.
The arrest happened at Owen Roberts International Airport, and both were pleaded guilty to a $1,000 fine but no conviction record.
Hadid moved on from the incident and posted photos of her vacation on social media.
Hadid also acknowledged the incident when people brought it up. She followed with a response of photos and captioned, “All’s well that ends well.” – WhatALife!/Zain
