Cagayan de Oro, Philippines – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) commended the sanitary landfill of Cagayan de Oro after receiving the ‘Best and Well Operated’ landfill by a Local Government Unit (LGU) award during the 2019 environment Summit. Following the closure of the open dumpsite in Zayas, Carmen, the new sanitary landfill has been operating since April 2016. “Consequences of neglecting our environment could be irreversible,” City Mayor Oscar Moreno said.
