WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) being monitored by the agency entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 6 pm yesterday. Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) inside PAR continues to affect the rest of the country.
At 3 am today, September 28, 2022, the LPA is spotted 1,240 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon. PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda says the LPA may not have a direct effect on the country.
“Ayong sa ating latest analysis yung track nito [LPA] is generally northwestward o northward. Malayo yan sa ating kalupaan. Nakikita din natin na wala itong direct effect sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa,” she reports.
(Based on our latest analysis, its [LPA] direction is generally northwestward or northward. It is far from our lands. We also see that it has no direct effect in any part of the country.)
However, Castañeda also notes that its trough may cause isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in southern Visayas and Mindanao.
The LPA may also become a Tropical Depression within 48 hours.
The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) also continues to affect the western section of Central and Southern Luzon. Isolated rain showers are expected.
For today’s weather forecast, cloudy skies, rain showers, and thunderstorms are expected in Occidental Mindoro, including Palawan. Residents are warned of possible flash floods and landslides.
Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon will also expect rainshowers and localized thunderstorms due to the Habagat. Severe thunderstorms may also occur in the afternoon or at night.
Eastern Visayas, including the CARAGA Region, will have isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA inside PAR. Meanwhile, Mindanao may expect cloudy skies and isolated rainshowers.
For thunderstorm advisories, please refer to your local PAGASA regional office.
