PAGASA: LPA out of PAR; Amihan, Shear Line bring rain over the country

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) being monitored recently has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Meanwhile, two weather systems, namely the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and Shear Line, bring rains over a major part of the country.

 At 2 am, the LPA being monitored by the weather agency has left PAR and has no direct effect on the country. At the moment, the shear line continues to affect parts of Southern Luzon and Visayas, while the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) brings rain over the rest of Luzon.

PAGASA reports no other weather disturbances inside PAR.

WEATHER UPDATE TODAY – JANUARY 6, 2023

For today’s weather forecast, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, and Quezon may experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, CAR, CALABARZON, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan are forecast to have cloudy skies and rains brought by the Amihan.



The rest of Luzon may expect light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon.

Most of Visayas is forecast to experience rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line. On the other hand, Mindanao may expect rains brought by isolated thunderstorms.

PAGASA continues to issue a gale warning to areas in Luzon and Eastern Visayas. Waves are expected to reach up to 5 meters. See the full list below:

  • Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands
  • Isabela
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Aurora
  • Northern Quezon, including the northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Island
