MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The UST Golden Tigresses dominate over Ateneo Blue Eagles with scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-14 in their latest match at the UAAP Season 85.
Out of six games, this is UST’s fourth time to prove their prowess in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament at Filoil EcoOil Arena.
UST coach Kungfu Reyes said that all teams are competitive and will not let their guard down, even up against the University of the East (UE).
“You cannot fool around with UE,” Reyes added, referring to the University of East Red Warriors, who have not won a battle this season yet.
In the game, Regina Jurado seized the limelight by aggressively attacking the net, carrying 12 attacks out of a game-high 15 points, and added three aces, all in the final set to end with an 11-2 score. Jurado described how the Tigresses devoured their prey.
“(Natutunan ko sa seniors ko ngayon) ‘yung tatag sa puso, ‘yung pagiging courageous inside the court, and ‘yung hindi pagtigil (sa paglaban) hangga’t hindi pumipito yung referee,” said Jurado.
Meanwhile, Eya Laurie unloaded 12 points and managed to fend off any attacks from their opponents and keep the ball out of their team floor. Cassie Carballo also exhibited strength in 16 excellent sets.
The Blue Eagles’ 1-5 start exhibited the Ateneo’s least impressive start to a UAAP season in 12 years.
Although they were able to save three set points in the second, Ateneo already committed too many mistakes, which accounted for a full set’s worth of errors.
Even Vanie Gandler’s 13 points, Faith Nisperos, and Lyann de Guzman’s 11-piece outings could not send off the Lady Eagles to soar.– WhatALife!/Anthony
