MANILA PHILIPPINES — The De La Salle Lady Spikers maintained their winning streak beating the FEU Tamaraws at the UAAP Season 85 Women’s Volleyball Tournament on March 11 at the Philippine Sports Arena Pasig.

The De La Salle women’s team scored against its opponent 25-16, 25-18, 25-21 with what seemed to be an unexpected sweep, according to their coach Noel Orcullo.

“There are still many things that we need to correct. We continue to commit lapses, and there’s a tendency to relax every time we’re ahead by a wide margin,” said Orcullo.

Thea Gagate and Angel Canino took the lead in La Salle’s victory, with Gagate earning 13 points, which included critical points in the final stretch of the match, and Canino firing 13 markers in the said game.

Alleiah Malaluan, who is recovering from a minor knee injury and is now regaining her momentum and reentering La Salle’s rotation, marked her comeback by contributing to the league-leading school with another attack option at the outside hitter’s position.

Jolina de la Cruz and Leila Cruz put in their effort with 10 markers, respectively, in La Salle’s balanced bout, scored by Mars Alba, who exhibited 19 excellent sets.

The FEU Tamaraws moved up to a 4-1 overall while the Green Spikers maintained a clean slate of three winning matches.

Orcullo said they did not expect a fast conquest over FEU as the latter is quite confident after its successful game over Ateneo.

The straight-set victory gave La Salle a much-needed confidence booster in their anticipated sets against Adamson University and defending champion National University in the coming week.

The Lady Spikers will be up against the Lady Falcons on March 19, which will precede a rematch against the Bulldogs on March 22.— WhatALife!/Anthony
