Typhoon Julian Strengthens Into Supertyphoon

PAG-ASA says that typhoon Julian is now a supertyphoon earlier at five in the morning. However, it slowed down as it moved past extreme Northern Luzon. Currently, Krathon (Julian) has wind speed of 185 kilometers per hour, which was previously 175 kph.

While it’s now a supertyphoon, signal number three in the extreme North Luzon region was lifted. Since five in the morning, Julian has continued to move further from the Philippines without making landfall in the country. However, winds and rain are still present in the affected areas.

As of 5:00 AM, PAG-ASA weather update today live includes the current conditions for October 1:



  • Intense to torrential rain in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte
  • Heavy to intense rain in Apayao, Abra, and Ilocos Sur
  • Moderate to heavy rain in mainland Cagayan, rest of Ilocos Region, rest of Cordillera Administrative Region

Moreover, PAG-ASA says “There is a moderate to high risk of life-threatening storm surge in the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Batanes and Babuyan Islands.”

PAG-ASA predicts that Typhoon Krathon will head to Taiwan. Moreover, typhoon Julian is expected to make landfall in Taiwan on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 2. Taiwan’s rugged terrain may also further slow the typhoon down.



Additional bagyong Julian updates include that it may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on October 4 to East China Sea.
