The newest guests for Melai Cantiveros’ Kuan on One podcast are singer-couple TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan. The episode talks about their love story, how they started as friends, and how they maintained their relationship with their respective parents.

Aside from their love story, they also mentioned TJ Monterde’s hometown, Cagayan de Oro. KZ, on the other hand, is from Digos in Davao. The couple talked about how they bonded through their faith and Bisaya roots. They met in Manila as musicians, and they became friends for a year before dating.

After a year of friendship, TJ began to formally court KZ. The “Palagi” singer shared that he asked their group of friends first before courting her. He also asked for formal permission from KZ’s family to pursue a romantic relationship with her.

At one point in the episode, TJ Monterde discusses the story behind “Palagi” and how he shared it with his wife. He surprised her with the song in a restaurant on May 29, 2023. TJ then explained that it was exactly ten years when they first met each other.

At present, there’s now a “Palagi” TJ & KZ version. The couple performed it in TJ’s hometown during their performance for the city’s fiesta celebration.

TJ says, “I wanted to show her that, even if we’ve been together for a long period, I’m always here.” They also discussed how important reassurance is to women due to their insecurities. 

The “Ako’y Isang Pinoy” singer also shared how lucky she is with her husband. KZ says that she’s happy that they share the same faith and values in life.

The couple also thanked their fans for supporting the new version of “Palagi.” Further in the episode, KZ revealed that she’s always backstage in her husband’s gigs. She mentioned that she often does his makeup, hair, and preps his outfits. KZ even joked that she doesn’t get paid for her services.

It’s been four years since KZ and TJ tied the knot. The couple married twice since KZ’s parents weren’t present the first time because of pandemic restrictions. They also shared how happy they are that they can maintain a strong relationship with their respective parents.

Furthermore, TJ Monterde & KZ talked about the importance of friendship in romantic relationships. He shared his grandmother’s advice, “Beauty fades, and the romance dies down. So you can both return to your friendship. It’s a very good foundation.”
