MANILA, PHILIPPINES – TV5 President and CEO Guido R. Zaballero believed that “It’s Showtime’s” transfer to GMA’s GTV (Good Television) is a good move for Filipino viewers.
During TV5’s conference, Zaballero said they respected the noontime show’s decision to transfer to GTV.
“We respect the decision that they made. Ang pinakaimportante kasi is at the end of the day, panalo ‘yung Filipino viewers. This is a good day for TV. It proves that TV is really alive,” he said.
MediaQuest Holdings Inc. President and CEO Jane Jimenez-Basas admitted that they had prioritized TVJ’s new show because, unlike It’s Showtime, they are now co-producers.
“I’d like to add the difference is that the relationship with Showtime and that contract which was actually set to expire by the end of June, is a blocktime relationship. This time around, we are co-owners, and co-investors in TVJ Productions. So ‘yung title ng kung ano man ‘yung show namin, mas invested kami kasi produkto na namin, ‘di ba? So it just really makes sense through a business standpoint to put it in the time slot that is best for it,” she said.
She also said they offered the show a time slot, citing younger audiences tuning in to TV during these hours.
“We did offer an alternative time slot. And in our humble opinion, that time slot which is the 4:30-6:30. It is best for it because it has a younger viewership eh. Bata ang mga nanonood ng It’s Showtime. Sabi nga ni Boss MVP (Manny Pangilinan) no, ultimately it is their decision. And I believe as of this morning, that decision is to move that show out of TV5,” she said.
Meanwhile, TVJ’s Tito Sotto reacted to “It’s Showtime’s” action and said there’s room for everyone.
“When we started ‘Eat Bulaga’ in 1979, the population of the Philippines was only 47 million. ‘Eat Bulaga’ lang ‘yon at ‘Student Canteen.’ Now we are 110 million. There’s room for everyone,” he said.
“Ang pinakamaganda ay mapasaya natin ang ating mga kababayan. There’s a common denominator among us, lalo na ‘tong mga Dabarkads and ang production namin, loyalty,” he added. – WhatALife!/Val
