HOLLYWOOD, USA — Taylor Swift and actor Joe Alwyn call it quits after a six-year-long relationship, as confirmed by a source close to the singer. The insider revealed that the couple broke up a few weeks ago, and the decision was made because they simply grew apart. However, they still plan to remain friends.
Swift and Alwyn, who kept their relationship low-key and private, were first rumored to be dating in 2016. Their representatives are yet to release a statement regarding the breakup.
The news was first reported by Entertainment Tonight, and fans are now eagerly waiting for more updates from both parties.
Despite their efforts to keep their romance out of the public eye, Swift hinted at her relationship with Alwyn in her music.
In a recent Instagram post, the Grammy-winner revealed that “Lavender Haze,” a track from her 2022 album “Midnights,” is about Alwyn. She described the song as being about the “lavender haze of love,” where one will do anything to stay in that feeling and not let anyone bring them down from that cloud.
“Like my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff and we just ignore it. This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff,” she added.
Alwyn was also given writing credit for the song “Sweet Nothing” on “Midnights.”
The duo has previously worked together on tracks that have appeared on Swift’s albums. Using the alias “William Bowery,” the British actor was given credit on a number of tracks from Swift’s “folklore” and “evermore” albums from the 2020 pandemic period.
The two had long been the subject of rumors that they were engaged or planned a wedding; just a few months ago, they were apparently talking about getting hitched. In her 2019 album, Swift sang, “I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings.”
“If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins,” Alwyn told WSJ Magazine in 2022, coyly adding, “I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say.” – WhatALife!/Jayve
