MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte signs her resignation from Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) where she previously represented as a chairperson on Friday.
Although Duterte announced her resignation, she has not given any reason on why she resigned from the position.
Duterte has served as a chairperson alongside House Speaker Martin Romualdez who is the president of Lakas-CMD.
“This is to announce my irrevocable resignation as a Lakas-CMD member effective today,” the Philippine Vice President stated.
“I am grateful to all the party members for the support that also once demonstrated that unity is possible to advance our shared dreams for our fellow Filipinos and our beloved country,” Duterte mentioned in a statement.
Duterte has also stated that nothing is more important to her than being able to meaningfully serve her fellow Filipinos and the Philippines alongside President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Her commitment will be immovable and encourage people to trust her words.
“I am here today because of the trust of the Filipino people in me to lead and serve them and the country, and this cannot be poisoned by political toxicity or undermined by execrable political powerplay,” she added.
Duterte also mentioned to the party leaders to focus on their work that has to be done and leave a legacy of a strong and stable homeland.
Lakas-CMD was also Duterte’s top 2022 campaign donor, giving out P139 million in contributions to the political scion for mostly ad spending.
