MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte clarified that she has no intention of resigning from her current positions.
“I did not say anything like that in my speech. That is why whenever someone asks, I say that whatever I laid down in my speech is clear. I believe since the interpretation is line per line and not the speech as a whole, there tend to be questions,” Duterte said on Wednesday, January 24.
She explained that certain portions of her speech were misunderstood by certain individuals, leading to a misunderstanding about her political intentions.
Duterte declared her plan to participate in the upcoming elections and confirmed that her brothers, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte and Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, will not be seeking office in 2025.
She was quoted in Cebuano, stating that she is actively preparing for the upcoming elections, despite her term as vice president extending until 2028.
The Vice President emphasized that her speech in Barangay Bago Gallera in Davao City clearly outlined her stance on running for office, and any confusion stemmed from the fragmented understanding of the people regarding her statements.
“It means, they remove one line to get the interpretation that they want,” she said.
Duterte refrained from providing a response to President Marcos’ suggestion that she might have been gauging public reactions or testing the waters with her statements.
“President Marcos and I haven’t talked about the next elections,” the Vice President said.
“The UniTeam is our tandem when we ran for president and vice president in the last elections, that’s it. Now, the two of us, we were elected as President and Vice President, we both do our jobs for our country,” she added.
Duterte clarified that her political intentions do not include any involvement with the perceived discord between her and Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“I cannot speculate what the Speaker is thinking. I don’t know him that well. Our friendship is not that deep for me to be able to speculate,” the Vice President said.
Vice President Sara Duterte further mentioned that she has not been presented with any documentation from the International Criminal Court.
