MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The three-month campaign period has officially begun, scheduled from February 8 to May 7. Tonight, major presidential and vice-presidential candidates will be holding their proclamation rallies at different times and locations all over the country. See the Campaign Period 2022 schedules below.
The candidates have been campaigning since the first half of 2021, but it is only during the official campaign period that they become formal candidates. The period comes with a set of rules and policies set by the Commission on Elections that candidates must abide by.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are more restrictions than the usual in-person campaigns. To make this possible, Comelec created a category level system with municipal to national committees tasked to determine which level an area belongs to.
Each level is classified as what in-person campaigning restrictions must be observed, such as rallies, motorcades, and meetings. However, handshakes, kisses, hugs, taking selfies, crowding, distribution of foods and drinks, and other traditional campaign interactions are strictly prohibited for all category levels.
