DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES — Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio, the presumptive Vice President, plans to hold her inauguration on June 19 in Davao City.
Outgoing Davao City Mayor Duterte-Carpio announced that she will hold her inauguration earlier than the regular June 30 date in order to attend the inauguration of her campaign mate, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Duterte claims that many of her fellow Dabawenyos want to attend and witness her oath-taking, which is why she wants the event to take place in her hometown. She went on to say that doing so is only proper because it’ll be a source of pride for Davao City and the Davao Region.
“While waiting for the proclamation, I already penciled in June 19 as the inauguration date in Davao City. The Dabawenyos’ patience made me the public servant that I am today, it is only fitting to honor them the opportunity to witness the oathtaking,” Duterte-Carpio stated in a statement.
“It will be conducted earlier than the traditional June 30 event because I also want to attend the oathtaking of President Marcos,” she added.
In the Commission on Elections’ counts, Sara and her standard-bearer, former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., are far ahead of other contenders.
Vice President Leni Robredo, who is behind Marcos in the presidential campaign, would be replaced by President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter.
The Senate and the House of Representatives will canvass votes for presidential and vice-presidential contenders. Officials from both chambers have already stated that the new president and vice president will be inaugurated in the latter part of May.
According to the Constitution, Duterte’s term of office may only begin at noon on June 30.
The president-elect and vice-president-elect have been inaugurated on June 30 in prior elections. President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo, on the other hand, broke decades of convention when they staged their inaugural rites in different sites in 2016 to comply with the Duterte camp’s requests. – WhatALife!
