MANILA, Philippines— The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced the results of the June 2024 Sanitary Engineers Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE), revealing that only one out of three examinees successfully passed the exam. The SPLE, administered by the Board of Sanitary Engineering, was conducted in Doha, Qatar; Al-Khobar and Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Board of Sanitary Engineering, composed of Engr. Corazon Delos Reyes-Romero as Chairman, and members Engr. Anthony Jerome M. Lara and Engr. Graciano B. Calayan, Jr., faced scrutiny over the unexpectedly low pass rate. Moreover, some critics argue that the exam may have been unreasonably difficult or poorly administered. This raised questions about the fairness and transparency of the licensure process.
The results of the SPLE for Sanitary Engineers, including the complete list of passers and detailed performance analysis, were released by the PRC Board of Sanitary Engineering a few days after the last day of exams. Moreover, the examination took place on June 16-17, 2024, in various testing centers across the Middle East and Singapore to uphold the high standards of the sanitary engineering profession.
The announcement of the low pass rate has sparked a debate within the engineering community. Some professionals have called for a review of the exam content and administration. Meanwhile, others defend the rigorous standards as necessary to ensure only the most qualified individuals enter the field. The controversy highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining a balance between high professional standards and fair assessment practices.
