President Rodrigo Duterte approved Friday the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to extend the current travel restrictions in ten countries until August 31, 2021.
“President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force to extend the current travel restrictions in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia from August 16 to August 31, 2021,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press statement.
The extended travel ban came amid the threat posed by the more infectious Delta COVID-19 variant, which was first detected in India.
The Philippines has already recorded a total of 627 cases of Delta coronavirus variant after logging 177 new cases on Thursday. Out of these new cases, 154 are local cases, three are returning overseas Filipinos, and 30 others are still being verified. – WhatALife.ph
