WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the center of Tropical Storm “Goring” was estimated at 220 km East Southeast of Basco, Batanes.

Tropical Storm Goring is based on maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center and up to 90 km/h gustiness. Additionally, the storm is moving slowly southwestward. The Southwest Monsoon will also affect Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Weather Today – August 25, 2023

Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region will be affected by cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the trough of Tropical Storm Goring, which impacts the areas with possible flooding or landslides due to moderate with, at times, heavy rains.

Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, and Bataan will be affected by cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the Southwest Monsoon impacting the areas with flooding or landslides due to moderate with at times heavy rains. 

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be affected by the Monsoon and localized Thunderstorms, with the conditions being cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms impacting the region with flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. 

Extreme Northern Luzon will have moderate to strong wind speeds directing West, causing the coastal water conditions to be in moderate to rough shape. The western section of Luzon will have light to moderate-speed winds directed from Southwest to West with slight to moderate coastal water conditions. The rest of the country will also have light to moderate wind speeds directed from South to Southwest with slight to moderate coastal water conditions as well. 

PAGASA has issued Tropical Storm Signal #1 in several areas listed:

• Batanes
•  Cagayan
•  Isabela

Due to the Tropical Storm Goring, PAGASA advised several areas with possible flooding:

• Cagayan 
•  Isabela
•  Benguet
•  Apayao
•  Ifugao
•  Abra
•  Kalinga
•  La Union
•  Ilocos Norte 
•  Pangasinan
•  Bataan
•  Aurora
•  Zambales
