PAGASA: Super Typhoon Mawar Spotted Near East of South Luzon

WEATHER UPDATE  — According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), super typhoon Mawar was spotted 2,150km East of Southern Luzon. The max wind speed currently reaches about 185 km/h with the gustiness of 230 km/h. The super typhoon is currently moving West Northwestward at 10 km/h.

Although still out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the super cyclone is getting closer and is estimated to be around Northern Luzon on May 30, 2023.

Meawhiel, the southwesterly wind flow will continue to prevail through the western section of Southern Luzon and may worsen due to the super typhoon, resulting in increased rain showers and thunderstorms.

Weather Today – May 25, 2023

For today’s weather forecast, Palawan, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, Zamboanga Peninsula and BARMM will be experiencing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwesterly wind flow being worsened by the incoming super typhoon. The listed areas may experience flash floods or landslides due to heavy rains. 



Temperatures from the listed areas will range from 26°C to 34°C.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will also be experiencing cloudy skies with rain showers and thunderstorms caused by southwesterly wind flow. Flash floods and landslides may occur due to severe thunderstorms. Although the weather will stay fair most of the day, heavy rain and thunderstorms may still occur over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. 

Temperatures in Metro Manila and the rest of the country will range from 25°C to 36°C.

Coastal areas of the Northern and Eastern section of Luzon may also experience moderate water conditions, with waves reaching 1.2 to 2.1 meters high, due to the Frontal System.



PAGASA has also issued tropical cyclone advisory to the following areas:

  • Virac
  • Catanduanes
  • Casiguran
  • Aurora
