PAGASA: Southwest Monsoon Continues to Prevail Over Luzon

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Southwest Monsoon continues to affect Northern Luzon heavily and the Visayas as well, causing heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Typhoon Falcon left the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 3:00 a.m. today. The typhoon is now labeled as Typhoon Khanun, located 715 km North Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It has a maximum sustained wind of 155 km/h near the center of gustiness up to 190 km/h. The typhoon continues to move West Northwestward at 10 km/h.

Weather Today – August 3, 2023

Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan will experience occasional rains through heavy rains caused by the Southwest Monsoon, which could lead to the possibility of flooding or landslides in the areas due to heavy rains.

Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and the rest of central Luzon will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the Southwest Monsoon again impacting areas with floods or landslides from heavy rain caused by the Southwest Monsoon. 



The rest of the country will experience cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by Southwest Monsoon and localized thunderstorms impacting areas with floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

PAGASA has given flooding advisories in both extreme and moderate levels. The listed areas are:

  • Benguet
  •  Apayao
  •  Ifugao
  •  Kalinga
  •  Mountain Province
  •  Abra
  •  Ilocos Sur
  •  Ilocos Norte
  •  La Union
  •  Pangasinan
  •  Bataan
  •  Zambales
