The Department of Tourism (DOT) announced that the Michelin Guide is set to make its debut in Philippine restaurant evaluations, marking a significant milestone in the Filipino culinary industry.
The prestigious guide will primarily focus on Metro Manila and Cebu, while also exploring other areas such as Pampanga, Tagaytay, and Cavite for its 2026 edition.
Michelin Guide international director, Gwendal Poullennec, stated:
“Our Michelin inspectors have been following the evolution of the Filipino culinary scene with great excitement. The country’s deep-rooted culinary traditions, combined with a strong openness to global influences, create a uniquely diverse dining culture.”
Poullenec also noted Manila’s young talented chefs are bringing fresh perspectives to Filipino cuisine, while Cebu boasts a diverse dining scene complemented by world-class hospitality.
DOT shared the guide’s acclaimed standards involving anonymous Michelin inspectors exploring focal places.
In addition, the Department of Tourism secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco welcomes the guide, emphasizing Filipinos’ rich culinary heritage and history.
“The arrival of the Michelin Guide is not only a testament to our country’s culinary excellence but also a significant leap forward for Filipino tourism, with gastronomy now forming a key part of our national tourism priorities,” Frasco said.
Travelers are also encouraged to experience and savor Filipino cuisine and culinary creations shaped by diverse global influences.
The Michelin Guide evaluates restaurants based on five criteria: quality of ingredients, mastery of cooking techniques, harmony of flavors, personality of the cuisine, and consistency over time and across the menu.
The distinctions include the Michelin stars, ranging from one to three, and the Bib Gourmand, which recognizes restaurants offering high-quality food at a reasonable price.
Frasco shared that the arrival of Michelin Guide in the Philippines underscores the growing recognition of Filipino cuisine globally, reflecting the demand for authentic, high quality dining experience in the country.
