PARIS, FRANCE — Miss International 2016 and actress Kylie Verzosa surprisingly appeared on the opening day of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
Kylie attended the premiere of the festival’s opening film “Jeanne du Barry” by Maiwenn, which features Johnny Depp, portraying King Louis XV. The movie serves as Depp’s comeback after three years, following the defamation cases against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The actress looked stunning in a black ball gown embellished with feathers and crystals by Mark Bumgarner, showing it on her Instagram page on May 17.
She wrote in the caption that it was a “Dream come true.”
“Such an honor to walk at the 76th Cannes Film Festival opening night, thank you for having me @festivaldecannes. It was so surreal,” she added.
According to Yugen PR, a public relations agency, Kylie was personally invited by Cannes organizing team to show up at the premiere. Kylie is the first Filipino to ever walk a red carpet in a premiere ceremony on the opening day.
A good number of beauty queens supported Kylie, including Miss World 2013 Megan Young, Miss World Philippines 2018, Katarina Rodriguez, Miss Universe Philippines 2021 1st runner-up Maureen Wroblewitz and the new-crowned winner of Miss Universe Philippines 2023, Michelle Dee.
Other celebrities such as actresses Anne Curtis and Iza Calzado, hosts Raymond Gutierrez and KaladKaren, photographer BJ Pascual, designer Francis Libiran, and content creator LA Aguinaldo have also shared their praise towards Kylie for making such a big milestone.
The 2023 Cannes Film Festival will be running until May 27, with 21 movies competing for the Palme d’Or. The previous winner of the award was jury president Ruben Ostlund for his film “Triangle of Sadness” which starred Dolly de Leon. – WhatALife!/Zain
