MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Kris Aquino has released an update on her health that she continues to battle five autoimmune conditions as she begins to take methotrexate.
On May 17, Aquino revealed on an Instagram post that she had taken her first “baby dose” of methotrexate, a medication that helps against autoimmune diseases, cancer, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
The video post shows the actress taking the medication. She explained that the medication treats cancer by slowing down the growth of cancer cells, treats psoriasis by slowing down skin cell growth to stop scaling from forming, and treats rheumatoid arthritis by lowering the immune system’s activity.
Aquino shared that she was diagnosed with her fourth autoimmune disease in June last year after her sons Josh and Bimby also tested positive for COVID-19. She started taking a new biological injectable to lower the allergens in her blood.
The actress stated that her blood panel numbers were bad, and the CT scan showed that her right lung had scarring and micronodules, classifying her as positive for connective tissue disease.
“My lead doctor in UCLA, Dr. John Belperio, had a difficult time convincing me about methotrexate because physically I knew my immunity wasn’t ready,” Kris stated.
She also said that she definitely has five, possibly six autoimmune diseases, causing her to start the “baby dose” of methotrexate by increasing her dosage to 7.5 mg per week.
Aquino has decided to make her medical journey public for her fans to keep praying for her, her sons, her doctors, and her sister.
“Hindi ako sumusuko, sana ‘wag rin kayo sumuko? Please?” she asked.
