Following the series of events of the 2017 “War for the Planet of the Apes,” the show came back again with its official trailer for its new sequel which is set to drop next year. After the long break, the trailer has once rekindled the interest of fans and avid followers. The trailer is shown featuring various scenes that hint viewers a new set of events to look forward to.
After Caesar’s passing, the fourth entry of the film shows that apes are now the dominant species while humans leave no trace in their realm. As a new tyrannical ape builds his own empire, a young ape, on the other hand, continues to venture on a journey where he will make choices that will define the future of both humans and apes.
Specifically, this was after the outbreak of the Simian virus in the reboot trilogy eliminated 90% of the global population, giving apes an easier opportunity to take over against the presence of mankind.
The cast for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes involves Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, Freya Allen, William H. Macy and Peter Macon.
Wes Ball, on the other hand, who’s known for the popular trilogy “The Maze Runner, is directing from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison. Jaffa, Silver, Joe Hartwick Jr. and Jason Reed produced the film, with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping executive producing.
Furthermore, it will also be Owen Teague’s first time to play a lead role as Cornelius in this huge studio film. Once it was pointed out to him, he struggled with a great deal of self-doubt.
“I had a bit of an existential crisis three weeks before we started shooting, and I was like, ‘I can’t do this,’” Teague recalls. “But then you just find your way back, and you realize that you know who you’re playing. I’m also not a terrible person, so I knew that people were going to enjoy working with me, at least I hoped.”
However, behind this challenge, Owen Teague still remains optimistic.
“This was the first time that I’ve left set and been like, ‘This is going to be awesome. We made something that’s completely amazing,’” Teague shares. “And I hope that’s true. God, I’m gonna look pretty stupid if it sucks, but I have complete confidence in everyone who’s working on that film.”
The production of this upcoming film started in Sydney in October 2022 and was finished in February 2023. This was evident after Ball shared some clips of the film’s behind the scenes from the set.
On a different note, the franchise, based on a novel by Pierre Boulle, has amassed more than $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office. The original series consisted of six films, which premiered between 1968 and 2001. After its successful impact, a reboot series was then released, officially dropping the first installment “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” series in 2001.
Moreover, Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in April 2019 and announced that they will produce more films for the hit franchise. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set to be released on May 24, 2024.
