In the latest episode of her series Live Light, Jodi Sta. Maria delves into the pressing issue of burnout, emphasizing its real and multifaceted impact on individuals.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), burnout is a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress and affects 33% of Filipinos.

Jodi recently halted from teleserye projects to focus on personal endeavors. The actress clarified that she’s on a break to “reset, reflect, and recharge,” underscoring the challenges of balancing multiple roles in the entertainment industry.

She noted, “Maraming todo kayod sa araw-araw, maraming pinagsasabay ‘yung dalawa, tatlo, o minsan mas marami pang raket.”

“Hindi madali ‘yun,” she remarked.

The actress also elaborated that many become restless due to overwork, resulting in burnout.

Most Common Signs of Burnout

Burnout manifests in various ways, including chronic fatigue and exhaustion, reduced efficiency at work, and emotional instability.

“Yung lagi kang pagod kahit nakakapagpahinga ka naman,” Jodi explained, and noted that burnout can lead to physical symptoms like headaches and gastrointestinal issues.

Additionally, burnout causes detachment from activities and relationships once enjoyed, leaving individuals feeling disconnected.

Things We Can Do to Handle Burnout

To combat burnout, Jodi emphasizes the importance of self-care, which can include activities like good quality sleep, exercise, and social connections.

She stresses that setting boundaries is crucial, saying, “There is power in saying NO to work tasks and responsibilities, so you can say YES to taking care of yourself.”

Seeking support from family, friends, or experts is also vital. Mindfulness practices and re-evaluating priorities help individuals ground themselves and adjust commitments to their current capabilities.

“Huwag niyong sarilihin ang problema, kasi pwede namang may tumulong,” she reminded her viewers.

Expert’s Take on How to Handle Burnout

Dr. Tito Almadin, life coach and therapist, suggests a three-step approach to handling burnout:

  1. Accept the Truth: Recognize that not everything can be accomplished within 24 hours.
  2. Recovery: Allow time for pacing and recovery.
