Jodi Sta. Maria continues to inspire and empower her audience through her YouTube series Live Light.

In the second episode, she delves into the concept of healing one’s inner child, which is said to be a metaphorical part of ourselves that is shaped by childhood experiences.

The episode opens with Jodi discussing a viral TikTok video of a CPA buying himself Harry Potter merchandise to “heal his inner child.” The video sparked mixed reactions among netizens in regards to its necessity.

This led Jodi to reflect on her own childhood longing for a box of cereal and toys—an unfulfilled desire she later satisfied as an adult.

Understanding the Inner Child

In defining the concept of “inner child,” the actress referenced Anuksha Singh, who defined the inner child as an individual’s childlike essence from past experience that continue to impact adult behavior.

She also cited TIME magazine, which described the inner child as “a metaphorical part of ourselves frozen in childhood and sometimes in need of healing.”

Jodi emphasized that our childhood experiences shape us into who we are today.

“What are your childhood experiences like?” she asked, acknowledging that each person’s journey of healing is different.

“For some people, they develop defense or coping mechanisms in life,” she explained.

She then elaborated, “Studies have proven that even if we are grownups already, we are still tied to past experiences, memories, and feelings.”

Is Healing the Inner Child Worth It?

Jodi posed a thought-provoking question: “Is it worth it to spend on your inner child healing?”

To answer this, she invited expert Dr. Randy Dellosa, a psychologist.

“I could say it’s worth it to spend on oneself,” he affirmed, “because it helps us with our emotional healing. That’s what we also call ‘self-care.’”

However, he cautioned that it’s fine as long as it’s not excessive or extreme.

Dellosa also introduced ways to heal one’s “inner childhood”:

  1. Going back to the past – Identifying emotions and confronting them.
  2. Talking about it – Finding a trusted person or seeking professional help to process emotions.

Similarly, Jodi suggested other alternative ways of healing such as:

  1. Affirmations – Speaking positive words to oneself.
  2. Visualization – Imagining a healed and happy version of one’s inner child.
  3. Reassurance – Comforting oneself the way a caring parent would.
  4. Creative techniques – Engaging in activities like journaling or storytelling.
  5. Reparenting techniques – Learning to set boundaries to protect yourself from past trauma.
  6. Seeking therapy – Consulting a professional for guided healing.

“Healing the inner child is a bold and brave move. It is an act of self-love,” the actress remarked.

Jodi concluded the episode by reminding viewers that healing the inner child is a courageous act for oneself.
