MANILA, PHILIPPINES — With the upcoming opening of the FIBA World Cup, it begs the question, “Is August 25, 2023 a holiday in the Philippines?” The Malacañang Palace declares August 25, 2023 a special (non-working) day (holiday) in the city of Iloilo, and suspends work in government offices and classes in public schools at all levels in Metro Manila and the Province of Bulacan.

Additionally, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) states that it is the private companies’ discretion if they will suspend work on Friday.
As long as these comply with laws, existing rules and regulations, Laguesma says the government respects the management prerogative of private firms.
The DOLE chief noted that “no work, no pay” policy is implemented when an employee did not report to work on a day which was not declared a holiday.
“The issuance is clear and self-explanatory so let’s allow the private sector to make their judgment. You are very much aware of the complaints of firms, especially small ones, about too many holidays already and paid days without productivity,” the labor chief said. – WhatALife!
