MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The Malacañan Palace declares Eidul Fitr (Eid’l Fitr) as a regular holiday in the Philippines this April 21, 2023.
Through Proclamation No. 201, released on April 14, Eidul Fitr will mark a holiday throughout the country as advised by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
“WHEREAS, in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’ Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, and to allow the entire Filipino nation to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr, it is necessary to declare Friday, 21 April 2023, a regular holiday throughout the country,” read Proclamation No. 201.

The holiday declaration follows Proclamation No. 42 signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in August, Section 2, that states:
“The proclamation declaring national holidays for the observance of Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos shall recommend to the Office of the President the actual dates on which these holidays shall respectively fall.“
List of April 2023 Holidays in the Philippines
Pursuant to Proclamation No. 90, signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in November 2022, the following is the official list of holidays in April 2023:
- April 6, 2023 – Maundy Thursday
- April 7, 2023 – Good Friday
- April 10, 2023 (Monday nearest to April 9) – Araw ng Kagitingan
- April 21, 2023 – Eidul Fitr (Eid’l Fitr)
Special (Non-Working) Holidays
- April 8, 2023 – Black Saturday
