Teachers have adopted Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools in Cebu City. Through these technologies, young students have new ways of learning important life skills and lessons through fun and interactive ways.
Upon returning to school, both students and teachers alike shared how taking on difficult subjects, such as science and mathematics, became more interactive thanks to the staff utilizing new technologies. ICT in schools includes interactive display boards and touchscreen capabilities, helping students have a good grasp of what they are learning.

But what is ICT? These refer to techs that store, retrieve, receive, and transmit information in digital formats. They have grown to become an integral part of business and educational operations.
Technology unfamiliarity is not an issue because many students are already familiar with touchscreen technology. Many students may have smartphones or tablets themselves or have family members who do.
Class Teacher Mary Ann Crescencio of Maridondon Elementary School in Lapu-Lapu shared her thoughts during an interview with Rappler.
“We have to acknowledge that the children now are digital natives…we have to adapt 21st-century skills, and because of that, we have to integrate information and communication technologies (ICTs).”
The teacher shared that children who have undergone modular learning were “passive” in learning. However, adopting ICT has made them more motivated and active when tackling their daily lessons.

Having ICT in schools is just the beginning of these changes. Schools, such as Marigondon Elementary, started to test students on their aptitudes in science, mathematics, and artistry. As early as grade 1, students are already going through lessons covering the basics of using computers.
It also goes without saying that many are concerned about how ICT in schools could have a negative influence on young children. Other worries include meeting the demands. Some principals, including Marichu Lidan of Marigondon Elementary, shared that there may not be enough ICT equipment to cater to the enrolled students.
However, some schools have found a temporary solution by allowing students to borrow the available laptops, showing that many local schools are embracing the advances of digital technology.
