Heart Evangelista, the well-known actress and artist, has opened up about her decision to prioritize her happiness over her parents’ objections when she married Senator Chiz Escudero.

In a recent interview, Evangelista revealed that reconciliation with her parents, Reynaldo and Cecilia Ongpauco, who strongly opposed her relationship with Senator Escudero, was nearly impossible.

However, the senator had a different perspective, believing everything would eventually fall into place despite the intense conflicts between them and Heart Evangelista’s parents.

During a guesting on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” last Thursday, the celebrity couple was asked about the lessons they learned from Heart’s parents’ initial disapproval of Chiz.

“I knew from the beginning that it would be alright. It was just a matter of time. I believed in that. I was confident in that,” replied the senator.

On the other hand, the Kapuso actress expressed her skepticism, citing the complexities of her family dynamics and upbringing.

She shared, “Hindi ako naniniwala. Siya napakanormal ng buhay niya, ‘yung family setup, I feel like we have more of a complicated setup.”

“So, I really didn’t think that it would be okay, but I knew for me. And that eventually, our love story will tell them otherwise,” Heart added.

When asked why he was confident that Heart and her parents would eventually reconcile, Chiz attributed it to his age and experiences. “At siguro kasabay na rin at dala ng pananampalataya at paniniwala na wala ka namang ginagawang mali o masama, sa dulo ‘yun pa rin ang makikita nila,” explained the politician.

Chiz also understood the deep-seated protective instincts of Heart’s parents, acknowledging, “Yes. Overly protective and loving parents.”

On the other hand, Heart expressed her understanding of her parents’ concerns but emphasized that it was her turn to prioritize her happiness. “I understood, but naisip ko noong time na ‘yun, it was my turn. “I’ve given up a lot of people in my life in the past for their happiness. It was my time to be happy,” she said.

It is no secret that there were significant issues between Chiz and Heart’s parents, which led to their refusal to attend their wedding in 2015. 

However, their family relationship has improved, with Heart’s mother even present at the couple’s renewal of vows last February.
