Actress-performer Maymay Entrata was interviewed by the Recording Academy and featured in its “It Goes 11” video series. It features musicians talking about their favorite gear.

Maymay’s interview was uploaded on Grammy’s YouTube channel on Thursday, October 24. In it, the performer discussed how in-ear monitors significantly improved her vocal performance.

Maymay Entrata recalled being out of tune when she started her music career three years ago.

“So, for the first year I learned how to sing, I feel like I’m still sharp, I’m still flat, I’m still out of tune whenever I sing live. Then, I noticed that most music artists have this something in their ear, and I was like, “What was that?” It does make them a better singer,” Entrata said.

Then she recounted how she approached Gary Valenciano, whom she described as “one of the most iconic artists in the Philippines.”

“And I asked: Sir, what is that in your ear po?” Maymay Entrata said.

According to her story, Gary Valenciano explained that in-ear monitors will help you hear yourself when you’re singing and hit that note immediately. That’s when Maymay realized these monitors were the missing gear she needed to be a better singer.

“These in-ears are one of the things that give me confidence for me to be able to hear myself more and for me to be able to sing well, better than before,” she said.

“I have the biggest realization that no magic or equipment that will make you skip learning on something that you want to pursue or something that you want to be passionate about,” she continued.

“It will always take hard work, perseverance, and patience for you to have it, for you to learn it,” she added.

Maymay Entrata rose to fame after becoming the “Big Winner” of the hit reality show Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7. After achieving mainstream success, she dabbled in movies and is known for her roles in “Princess Dayareese” and “Hello, Love, Goodbye.”
