SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — GOT7 member Jinyoung begins mandatory military service on May 8, according to BH Entertainment.
His agency BH Entertainment shared a photo of his shaved head look on Instagram.
“Actor Park Jinyoung enlisted today,” the agency stated, according to a translation by Soompi. “We ask for your support and encouragement until the day he greets fans again with improvement.”
Ahead of his enlistment, BH Entertainment released a statement to Korean media, stating:
“To minimize crowding on the day of his enlistment, no separate official event will be held, and we ask for your understanding that he is enlisting privately for safety reasons. Since the entrance ceremony for the recruit training center is a private event with a large number of soldiers and their families, we ask fans to refrain from visiting the site.”
Jinyoung shared a selfie on his social media platform shortly before entering the military, showcasing his new short haircut.
Fellow GOT7 members Jay B and Yugyeom were spotted bidding farewell to Jinyoung. An online photo circulated, capturing Jinyoung flashing a peace sign while wearing a hoodie, highlighting his buzzcut hairstyle.
“Jinyoung, I wish you a healthy service. I’m not sure if you will see this Tweet, but we GOT7 and Ahgase will be waiting for JJ Project with patience,” wrote BamBam.
Currently, Jinyoung is the second member of GOT7 to enlist in the military, following leader Jay B.
As for the remaining members of GOT7, Jackson and Mark, who are not Korean nationals, are not required to fulfill military service in Korea. Similarly, BamBam, who is also a non-Korean, is exempt from military enlistment.
The other members, Youngjae and Yugyeom, are expected to enlist in the military at a later date.
Earlier this year, on February 26, Jinyoung held his fan concert, titled “2023 PARK JINYOUNG FAN CONCERT – RENDEZVOUS in Manila: Secret Meeting Between You and Me,” at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
