In an episode of Adulting with Joyce Pring titled Is Gen Z the “Anxious Generation”?, Joyce Pring was joined by JC Yu and Kent Santosidad to talk the generational differences between Gen Z and Millennials.

When asked about these differences, JC and Kent highlighted key distinctions in upbringing and values between the two generations.

JC pointed out that Gen Z, unlike Millennials, are true digital natives.

“They grew up in a generation where technology is readily available to them,” he said.

He further explained how advancements in technology have significantly shaped each generation’s upbringing and worldview. While Gen Z has been more exposed to screens from an early age, JC also noted their strong entrepreneurial mindset.

“They know how to be able to make things work. They are very intelligent. They know how to ask good questions, and they’re very smart to be able to work than our age,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kent provided a different perspective on what differentiates the two generations.

“I see that their sense of self comes from their success sa career or education,” he observed, adding that older generations tend to derive their identity more from family and personal relationships.

Gen Z, however, is more focused on building connections and developing their skills to achieve success.

Joyce also shared an interesting encounter with Gen Z students at a campus event.

“When I talked to them, sabi nila: ‘It’s easy for us to build connections when we have a common goal of succeeding but it’s hard for us to foster deep, intimate relationships.’” She recalled.

In response, Kent explained that vulnerability plays a key role in forming deeper connections—and for many in Gen Z, the fear of emotional exposure may be a reason for hesitation in building close relationships.

Despite differences, Gen Z and Millennials share common struggles in navigating relationships, career aspirations, and personal identity. As technology continues to shape social dynamics, understanding these generational gaps can help foster deeper connections and a healthier balance between success and personal growth.
