Devastating flash flood affects families in Barangay Puerto and Bugo

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, PHILIPPINES — On October 16, 2022, Sunday, a flash flood swept through Barangays Puerto and Bugo.

CDRRMD-Oro Rescue (City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department) and CSWD (City Social Welfare and Development) have spearheaded the rescue efforts to relocate the 41 displaced families in the activated EC (evacuation center) Puerto Covered Court.

On October 16, 6:31 PM, the authorities relocated the affected and have prepared a community kitchen for their needs.

At 7:02 PM, there was still no electricity in some areas of Barangays Puerto and Bugo, and some roads were not yet usable. The CDRRMD and CSWD teams performed rescue operations and immediate intervention for the affected families. The authorities have activated the Puerto evacuation center and the community kitchen.



At 7:26 PM, rescue operations transported 60 to 100 individuals to the COBSAY evacuation center in Bugo.

At 9:30 PM, 163 families were in Barangay Bugo (Zone 6 and 6), while 140 were in Barangay Puerto evacuation centers. Initial help, such as food packs and medicines, arrived from the city government.

At midnight, 12:04 AM, Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy issued an executive order declaring suspension at all levels for public and private schools in Barangays Bugo and Puerto.

As of October 17, 1:20 AM, City Hall workers had to arrive at one o’clock in the morning arrive on the scene to help the victims of the great flood in Barangays Puerto and Bugo. 



The CSWD office delivered and handed food packs, mats, and blankets, while Oro Rescue personnel were available to help and monitor the environment. – WhatALife!/Zed
