Veteran Broadcast Journalist Emil Sumangil has officially joined 24 Oras as main anchor.
Sumangil who has been a broadcast journalist in the industry for 20 years, was formally introduced as the third main anchor of 24 Oras. Emil Sumangil joins 24 Oras anchors Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales in delivering news updates each evening.
With his experience and expertise in Journalism, from reporting crimes and disasters and giving voice to public grievances. Sumangil is now ready to take on new challenges.
On Monday, November 20, Sumangil signed an official contract with GMA Network as the third main anchor of 24 Oras.
Present during the signing were GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon; President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr.; and Senior Vice President and Head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV and Synergy Oliver Victor B. Amoroso.
Sumangil is a multi awarded journalist with nearly two decades of experience, known for bringing exclusive news and stories to every Filipino. His dedication for raising awareness of community concerns made him known as “Kapuso Action Man”. Despite his success in the industry Sumangil remains humble, acknowledging the unwavering support of his home network throughout his whole career.

“Talagang magaling si Emil hindi lang na reporter, anchor ng news at public affairs program,” said Atty. Gozon, saying that Sumangil perfectly fits the position of one of 24 Oras anchors. “He more than deserves the appointment at malayo pa ang kanyang mararating sa trabaho,” he added..
Emil Sumangil expressed his utmost gratitude to GMA network through his speech.
“Ngayong araw, pormal nyo pong binigyang katuparan ang pinapangarap ng isang mamamahayag kagaya ko. Ito ay maging isa sa mga mukha ng numero unong primetime news program ‘24 Oras,’” Emil Sumangil said in his speech.
Emil Sumangil received many awards throughout his journalism career. Sumangil is a talented journalist, winning the Outstanding TV News Magazine Host at the 2022 Gawad Filipino Icon Awards. He also received the Grandes Figuras award in 2019 from Colegio de San Juan de Letrán, Best Field Reporter at the 2018 U.P. Gandingan Awards, and the 2014 Outstanding TV News Reporter honor from the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption.
He also received the Gawad Justice Felix Angelo Award from the Philippine College of Criminology Alumni Association in 2014.
