MANILA, PHILIPPINES — In a playful dare by veteran comedian and host Joey de Leon, the Dabarkads (co-hosts) of the GMA noontime show “Eat Bulaga” surprised viewers by singing the iconic theme song of rival ABS-CBN program “It’s Showtime” during the May 6 episode.

“It’s Showtime” is a popular noontime variety show that has been on air since October 24, 2009. While originally broadcast on ABS-CBN, it is now available on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, TV5, as well as on YouTube and Facebook through Kapamilya Online Live.

The show features a lineup of talented hosts, including Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Jugs Jugueta, Teddy Corpuz, Vice Ganda, Karylle, Jhong Hilario, Ryan Bang, Amy Perez, Ion Perez, Jackie Gonzaga, Kim Chiu, Ogie Alcasid, MC Muah, Lassy Marquez, and Cianne Dominguez.

Notably, it became ABS-CBN’s longest-running daily noontime variety show. It is known for being the second live entertainment program in the Philippines to be broadcast in high-definition, following ASAP Natin’ To surpassing the original run of MTB (Magandang Tanghali Bayan) in 2016.

During the recent episode of “Eat Bulaga,” Joey de Leon challenged his co-hosts to sing the “It’s Showtime” theme song and offered a reward of ₱10,000 if they could successfully perform it.

Jose Manalo, Allan K, Wally Bayola, and special guest Gabbi Garcia stepped up to the challenge and sang the intro of the famous theme song. After their performance, Joey jokingly threatened to fire the Dabarkads who sang the song.

“Sampung libo? Kakantahin ko talaga ‘yan,” Jose Manalo said.

After the performance, Joey joked that all of the hosts who sang the song had been fired.

Okay, wala. Tanggal na kayo,” Joey said.
