Duterte inaugurates Cavite’s Sangley Airport Project
President Rodrigo Duterte inaugurated the Sangley Airport development project in Cavite, Sunday. The development of Cavite airport aims to lessen flight delays and air traffic congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Pleased with the undergoing construction, Duterte vowed to ride his last flight as President via Sangley to Davao, his hometown. He is confident that the soon to be international hub will be finished by the time his term ends in 2022.
According to reports, Team MacroAsia and China Communications Construction Corp was the sole bidder to develop the $10-billion Sangley Point International Airport project. The 1,500-hectares international airport hub will feature four runways, airside, and landside facilities. It is said to accommodate up to 130 million passengers annually.
Furthermore, the project will enable the transfer of the NAIA’s General Aviation (Gen-Av) Area and its hangars, which currently occupy a large portion of the international airport, to Sangley Point as an option to ease the congested problem.
“Owners of Gen-Av aircraft have agreed that they will transfer to Sangley as soon as the hangar facility exclusively for them are built,” Transportation and Communications Secretary Arthur Tugade said in a radio interview.
