MANILA, Philippines – Primetime King Dingdong Dantes and Primetime Queen Marian Rivera received positive comments from netizens for their MMFF entry ‘Rewind’.
In an Instagram post, Marian Rivera shared a screenshot of a comment from a netizen. Despite the comment regarding their movie being positive, it contained a harsh tone.
“TANGINA NI MARIAN RIVERA, NAPAKAGALING! TANGINA MO RIN DINGDONG DANTES! TANGINA NIYONG DALAWA!!!!! NAPAKAHUSSAAAAYYYY!!!” a netizen posted.
“Maligayang Pasko sayo. Napakilig mo ako.” Marian Rivera commented on the post.

“Tangina niyong Mag couple kayo Pinaiyak niyo ko sa cinehan. Napakahusay niyo. Please lang StarCinema isa pa pong Dongyan sa 2024. Uulitin ko to Promise”.

The real life Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera effortlessly translated into their on-screen love and chemistry. However, this genuine connection also heightened the emotional impact of the marital troubles faced by their characters, John and Mary.
The duo’s performances in the tragic scenes were so convincingly real that they are deserving of acting awards. Beyond the familiar plot, it was their compelling portrayals that brought a unique radiance to the film.
While the movie remained rooted in the essence of Pinoy melodrama, it featured several recognizable characters, including an estranged father (Lito Pimentel), a well-meaning mother-in-law (Coney Reyes), a seductive workmate (Sue Ramirez), a “marites” employee (Pamu Pamorada), and an enthusiastic sidekick (Joross Gamboa). Additionally, the narrative introduced a mysterious school electrician named Jess (Pepe Herrera), known as “Lodz” by the kids.
Enrico Santos, the writer behind both “Rewind” and “Mallari” in this MMFF, crafted narratives that compete for the top spot in the festival box office. His portrayal of husband-wife arguments resonates strongly with married viewers due to its impactful nature.
Director Mae Cruz-Alviar demonstrated skill in constructing scenes to elicit maximum emotional impact during their climaxes. While the character of Lodz might pose challenges, especially for conservative Christians, Cruz-Alviar handled this aspect with sensitivity. Overall, the film earns a rating of 7 out of 10.
