Aster probed if this view might change when he found the right one, to which he replied, “No, it’s not that.”
“I do believe you can find the right one,” he said, emphasizing his issue was not with love or partnership but with the institution itself.
“I said ‘marriage is a piece of paper.’ What I really mean by that is you can be with someone for the rest of your life and not be married, but you guys are still okay.” he explained.
Marriage Compared to a Degree
Diego likened marriage to a degree, explaining it does not always guarantee a secured future.
“A degree doesn’t mean that it secures you a future and a good career in the future and you’re going to become rich. You can still become rich without a degree,” he said.
Economic Realities of Starting a Family
Regardless of his perspective, the actor also acknowledged people who are married and content.
“For the people who are married, congratulations. I’m so happy na na-achieve niyo ‘yun,” he said, noting its rarity nowadays especially in this generation people are hesitant to start their own families.
“People are so afraid of having children. They don’t want to have kids. The economy sucks,” he remarked.
He added, “Everything’s hitting us really, really hard. It’s hard to start a family.”
Diego’s Personal Outlook on Marriage
Returning to the question of his own future, Diego admitted he can’t see it yet in the next five years.
The actor concluded his statement on unpredictability and possibility to change, stating, “All I’m saying is you can always plan for a picnic, but you can’t predict the weather.”
