CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, PHILIPPINES — On May 19, 2022, CEPALCO issued a Customer Advisory informing its valuable customers of an increase of billing in its Generation Charge for May 2022.
The Generation Charge has increased by P1.07 per kilowatt-hour. The increase is based on CEPALCO’s power suppliers’ billings.
As previously stated, the increase is primarily due to higher generating costs of CEPALCO’s power suppliers as a result of the continuing rise in global fuel and coal prices. For CEPALCO residential customers consuming an average of 150 kilowatt-hours, this will result in a P160.50 increase in their May 2022 bill.
The effective increase for customers whose electric consumption ranges from 50Kwhrs to 100Kwhrs (Lifeline Rate Bracket) is approximately P60.00 (plus or minus) depending on actual consumption.
With the rising cost of electricity, CEPALCO is actively encouraging its valued customers to conserve energy and use electricity wisely in their homes.

Meanwhile, Meralco has announced lower rates for May 2022.
Meralco customers can expect lower electric bills in May, due in large part to a rate reduction in effect this month.
This month, the power distributor announced a P0.12 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) rate cut, resulting in an overall rate of P10.0630/kWh. This translates to a P24 to P60 per kWh reduction in the bill of customers consuming 200 to 600 kWh per month.
ADVISORY: Meralco electricity rates are down by ₱0.12 per kWh this May. This means a typical household consuming 200 kWh a month will have a decrease of around ₱24 in the total bill. https://t.co/sDo55hwVGt pic.twitter.com/JZU6zmmRfG

“The overall rate reduction was mainly due to the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) order to Meralco to refund a total of P7.8 billion following the validation of Meralco’s 3rd Regulatory Period (3RP) tariffs for the period July 2011 to June 2015 (RY 2012-2015),” the company said in a statement.
This reduced the generation charge—the largest component of electric bills—by P0.3553/kWh. – WhatALife!
