CAGAYAN DE ORO, PHILIPPINES — The Cagayan de Oro River Boulevard will finally be opened on Friday, May 26, 2023.
The road is a go-to spot for people to walk, bike, jog, and enjoy the river, wrote Cagayan de Oro Today in a Facebook post.
Although the project was funded 20 years ago, through cooperation with the Philippines and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), JICA was committed to support Philippine government infrastructure projects that were focused on socio-economic development, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) stated on Feb 12.
During President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s visit to Japan meeting with JICA President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, the agency has reaffirmed their commitment to aid ongoing and future economic cooperation projects in the Philippines.
“The administration of President Marcos intends to maintain strong ties with Japan to provide game changing infrastructure projects designed to better the lives of the Filipino people,’’ which was stated by the DPWH.
The two leaders recognized the importance of utilizing private-public partnership (PPP) scheme in future plans for construction or operation and maintenance of roads, long-span tunnels, and bridges in the Philippines, given the opportunities to take advantage of the technical expertise of Japanese companies.
Japan’s JICA was committed to support construction on project flood-prone areas and strengthen the resilience to climate changes. There were four sub-projects that were completed under the Flood Risk Management Project for Cagayan River, Tagoloan River, and Imus River.
“On-going flood control projects are the channel improvement works for Middle Marikina River including the construction of Manggahan Control Gate Structure and construction of Cainta Floodgate and Taytay Sluicegate at the joining sections of Cainta and Taytay rivers to Manggahan Floodway under the Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project Phase IV; Flood Risk Management Project for Cagayan De Oro River; and Cavite Industrial Area Flood Management Project,’’ the DPWH stated.
The CDORiver boulevard was made for flood risk management as it is set up high if closely seen in the photos.
They have yet to confirm if President Marcos will be present during the inauguration, but it is one of the projects that have been successfully finished. – WhatALife!/Zain
