Good news for Avatar fans out there. Your favorite show is now in the works for an upcoming live-action series adaptation on Netflix in 2024. After the official announcement of the project, fans have been more enticed to find out what’s in store for the newest Avatar show.
Avatar has long taken over the interest of many due to its compelling plot and visual effects, and now everybody’s going to get another taste of it. This was after the cast shared their excitement for the upcoming show during the Netflix TUDUM special event, which took place in Brazil, where they also teased everyone with some of their major highlights, such as riding Appa, the bending action, and more.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender live action I feel like is going to bring everything you know and love about the original series back to life,” said Cormier, who plays the show’s titular hero, when he and his co-stars took the stage at Tudum on Saturday.
“And hopefully [it will] just bring a bunch of new fans who have never heard [of] the show before into this universe, and to me that’s pretty exciting. I’m a fan of the show personally, and I’m just excited for this as you guys are.”
You may be wondering what this upcoming gem is all about; well, just like the waterbender Katara spoke in the introduction of the Nickelodeon program: “Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, can stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed, and my brother [Sokka] and I [Katara] discovered the new Avatar: an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world.”
In particular, this pretty much sums up the mission of Aang of stopping Fire Lord Ozai and the Fire Nation’s destructive quest for power.
The show will feature cast Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai. The extended supporting cast announced thus far as includes Maria Zhang as Suki, Paul Sun-Hyung as Uncle Iroh, Elizabeth Yu as Azula, Momona Tamada as Ty Lee, Thalia Tran as Mei, Lim Kay Siu as Monk Gyatso, and Ken Leung as Commander Zhao, and Amber Midthunder as Princess Yue.
