CAGAYAN DE ORO, PHILIPPINES — Pennessencio “Nonoy” Estarte of Zamboanga del Sur, painter, illustrator, muralist, and cartoonist, has recently passed away. The news of his death was shared on Facebook.
People have shared the post to extend their condolences to the bereaved family and remember Estarte and his influence on local artists
Estarte was a self-taught artist who honed his craft and skills when his parish priest noticed his talent for the arts.
By the year 1979, Fr. Frank Demetrio took Estarte under his wing to work as a Resident Artist of the Xavier University Museum. Estarte then became the Assistant Curator on files and records, and eventually became Assistant Curator of Museo de Oro.
Fr. Frank Demetrio also sent Estarte to attend conferences, workshops, and lectures relating to museum development projects, art, and other educational programs.
The artist was crucial to the creation of several developmental programs among artists in the city. He was also the founder of Premier Art Organization, formerly known as Oro Art Guild. Estarte also helped organize the Xavier university student Art Organization called the Circulo de Arte.
Rest in peace, sir.
