Angely Dub, an entrepreneur and internet personality, recently shared life-changing lessons she learned through therapy on her YouTube channel.
In her video titled 10 Useful Life Tips from My Therapist, she outlined the transformative insights she received from her therapist:
1. “I don’t have to choose between two identities.”
The entrepreneur shared her realization that she didn’t have to pick just one aspect of her life to focus on. It’s all about integrating different parts of yourself rather than feeling forced to choose one over the other.
2. Let people learn, they’re not your responsibilities
“I cannot save everyone,” she emphasized.
It is a lesson that revolves around the idea that you can’t save everyone. Allow people to learn from experiences, even if it means making mistakes. You are not responsible for fixing everyone’s problems.
3. Career women tend to change men to prove their worth
Angely mentioned that career women sometimes seek validation in relationships as a way to prove their worth. However, her therapist advised against carrying that mindset into dating.
She emphasized that relationships should be built on genuine connection rather than need for validation.
4. Resting is success, overworking is not a badge of honor
Rest is essential for overall well-being. Overworking leads to exhaustion and negatively impacts those around you, including family and teammates.
“Ang rule ko whatever my anger is outside sa work, hindi ko siya bitbitin sa bahay,” Angely remarked.
Learning to separate work-related anger from your home life essentially breaks this cycle.
5. It’s okay to be vulnerable
Vulnerability is not a weakness but a strength. Sharing your feelings and asking for help allows for deeper connections with others to foster.
6. Be direct with people
“Okay lang ma-lose natin ‘tong mga people na ‘to with our honesty kaysa nandiyan pa rin sila sa buhay natin but fake tayo,” she said.
It’s better to be truthful about your intentions and feelings, even if it means someone might not like it.
7. Your emotions are meant to be felt
It’s important to recognize and process your feelings in a healthy way. Suppressing emotions can lead to negative consequences especially around people you surround with.
8. Connecting with our younger self is so important
“Connecting with our younger self is so important to remember our ‘why,’” Angely highlighted.
Reconnecting with your younger self through past activities can remind you of your drive. She shared that visiting the activities and mindset of her younger years helped her rediscover her creative spirit and passion.
9. Create a story for yourself
The human brain is designed to keep you alive, not necessarily happy. Creating stories can help you reframe situations and move forward.
For instance, if something in your life doesn’t work out, create a story that explains why it wasn’t the right fit for you, rather than dwelling on feelings of rejection.
10. Boundaries go around yourself
Boundaries are for self-control, not for controlling others. They are about setting limits for yourself, such as saying no or recognizing when you need to stop.
Boundaries help you protect your well-being and prevent others from taking advantage of you.
Angely Dub’s candid sharing of her therapy experiences not only provides valuable life lessons but also challenges common misconceptions about therapy in the Philippines.
Normalizing therapy as a means for personal growth and emotional intelligence encourages an empowering practice rather than a sign of weakness.
