Despite its positive performance from the film festivals, the movie was supposed to have a nationwide release. According to Diaz, major cinema chains chose not to screen it.
“We have a PG rating, and we have demand — two things that would otherwise not make them hesitate to show the film. It would be great to get an answer from them,” Diaz said.
And So It Begins revolves around the presidential campaign of former Vice President Leni Robredo during the 2022 elections, which is known as the “pink” movement. At the time, Robredo wanted to face Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the position. Additionally, the 113-minute documentary featured a deep exploration of the complexities of Philippine politics.
