APRIL 30 HEAT INDEX UPDATE – DOST-PAGASA reveals that thirty-four (34) areas in the Philippines have a heat index classified as ‘Dangerous’ in its effects. With apparent temperatures ranging from 42-51°C, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely in these areas.

Yellow Warning 27-32°C: Caution
Fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure and activity. Continuing activity could lead to heat cramps.
Yellow Orange Warning 33-41°C: Extreme Caution
Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible. Continuing activity could lead to heat stroke.
Orange Warning 42-51°C: Danger
Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely; heat stroke is probable with continued exposure.
Red Warning 52°C: Extreme Danger
Heat stroke is imminent.
Meanwhile, PAGASA advises the public to take precautions due to the elevated heat index. According to Solis, spokesperson for PAGASA, individuals are encouraged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and to minimize outdoor activities, particularly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., when temperatures are at their peak. Solis also emphasizes avoiding beverages such as tea, soda, and alcohol, as they can exacerbate dehydration.
