In his third year as President of the Philippines, Bongbong Marcos (PBBM) will deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, July 22, 2024, at 4 PM. Here’s what to expect from PBBM’s SONA this year.
The SONA is an annual address delivered by the country’s executive leader. It covers critical topics such as inflation, livelihood generation, and economic plans and outlines the President’s strategies for tackling the nation’s issues for the year.
Many citizens are particularly anticipating that PBBM’s SONA will address a major current concern. This includes national security and the ongoing assertion of the country’s rights to the West Philippine Sea.

For the SONA, BBM will deliver his address after the House and Joint session in the afternoon. House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero will speak to lawmakers before the scheduled annual speech at 4 PM.
Given its significance, many Filipinos are wondering, ‘Is today a holiday?’ However, work and school will proceed as usual, except for students in Quezon City. Here, officials have suspended classes due to expected heavy traffic from protesters and activist groups.
Although public school classes in the city have not yet started, officials have suspended all Brigada Eskuwela activities. These include cleaning and preparing educational establishments for the upcoming school year.
In preparation for his speech, President Bongbong Marcos Jr. rehearsed at Malacañang on the night of Sunday, July 21, 2024. The Presidential Communication Office (PCO) shared a post about the President preparing for his SONA.

Additionally, the office discussed the barong PBBM would be wearing, stating, “PBBM’s SONA barong is a collaborative work of artisans from Lucban, Quezon, Taal, Batangas, and Aklan.” However, there was no mention of the key points of his speech.
The President expressed his desire for a brief speech, leaving the Cabinet members to elaborate on its intricacies and details.
