Vilma Santos and her two sons, Luis Manzano, and Ryan Recto, have filed their respective certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2025 midterm elections.
Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Santos’s husband, and actress Jessy Mendiola accompanied them to file their COCs at the Comelec office in the Batangas Provincial Capitol. They filed their COCs under the Nacionalista Party.
Santos plans to return as Batangas governor, while Manzano plans to aim for the position of vice governor. Moreover, Ryan will be seeking the House seat for Batangas’ sixth district.

Vilma Santos is one of the most known actresses before entering politics. She won the position of Lipa City’s mayor in 1998 and was barred from seeking another term in 2007. She then ran for governor of Batangas in May of the same year and defeated Arman Sanchez. She was re-elected to her second term in 2010 and won the second time.
After her third and final term in 2013, Santos ran to be the first representative of the newly formed 6th District of Batangas. At that time, she easily won against Bernadette Sabili.
Like his mother, Luis Manzano is a well-known actor and TV host. This marks his first attempt into politics, which he mentioned in a July interview
“Each of us has an obligation to serve. In what capacity? This depends on what is given to us by God; it depends on the cards that have been given to us.
Have I ever said ‘yes’ to politics before? Not yet, but you shouldn’t be surprised if I agree to it this year,” he stated.

“I’m very much open to politics. If I run, it would have to be for public service. I’ve received a lot of offers for different government positions. I take that as a compliment,” Manzano added.
Santos and her sons are just a few of the many Pinoy celebrities filing for candidacy. Netizens even took to social media to react to the news.
“Hay naku Ate Vi! Off ka ngayon sa marami. For 30 years, they tolerated you because you’re generally a nice person, but this is too much. TOO MUCH!” one user commented.
“NO TO POLITICAL DYNASTY! THATS WHY THERE IS AN ELECTION TO CHOOSE THE BEST CANDIDATE,” another added.
“Weh…di nakaka Star for all season yan!!! Garapalan na talaga. Ala eh, please vote wisely!,” another added.
